Shine – a noun

Brightness from a source of light; radiance.

When I decided I wanted to start blogging and had to come up with a name, it was difficult………really, really difficult. I would be in the shower or driving to work trying to think of something I loved, but I kept coming up with nothing. How could I convey what I wanted to share with the world in just a few words? The essence of my life - thoughts, stories, fears, struggles and aspirations couldn’t possibly be summed up that easily. I put the naming on the back burner and forged ahead with plans for my nameless blog.

Several weeks later I was out to dinner with my dearest girlfriends from childhood. I mentioned my blog idea and how I was struggling with the name. We started brainstorming after a few glasses of wine and BOOM! - just like that Live Your Shine was born.

While I love finding an amazing pair of shoes 50% off and sharing the deal with you, I also want to share more than just the superficial stuff. I’ll always be on the lookout for the latest steals, deals and fashion tips to help you look your best and make you SHINE, but I’m not gonna just blog about how you look. I want all of this to also be about shining from the inside. Being a good person, choosing to be kind, making time for those you love, being present, enjoying the simple things in life, taking care of yourself by eating well and exercising, not getting caught up in the next thing on your to do list…….all of the things we struggle with.

Live your life kind. Live your life sweet. Live your life bright. Live your life being the best YOU….don’t try to be anyone else. Live YOUR shine! Whether you shine because you look fabulous and are rocking a new pair of skinny jeans or you shine because of how you choose to live each day. Just be full of shine.

Do I shine every day? Absolutely not! I struggle – believe me.

I catch myself being annoyed with the checkout person at the grocery store who is moving too slowly for me. Why can’t she scan my things faster? I can get aggravated with a co-worker who asks a “stupid” question at the end of a long meeting Doesn’t he know I’m busy and have better things to do other than listen to him go on and on?

Why do I let these things bother me? Can’t I be more understanding and compassionate? Of course I can. I just need to work on being better.

While the grocery gal is scanning my stuff, why not just chat with her? Ask her about her day, comment on her cute haircut or ask her if she’s tried the brand of salsa I’m buying.

At work, when my coworker asks his stupid question, I could sigh and roll my eyes to my friend sitting next to me OR I could pay attention to the answer he gets from the group. Maybe I’ll learn something I didn’t know.

I will continue to work on my shine every day. I will struggle and I will disappoint myself. It’s gonna happen. I’ll just try to be better the next day.

My goal is to make every post about being your best and helping you Live Your Shine.
